Minimum Qualifications
Applicants for career positions should meet or be able to meet the following minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Preferred: Class B Driver’s License at time of application; if not currently obtained, it must be acquired within one year of employment
- Texas Commission on Fire Protection certification as a Basic Firefighter or higher
- Texas Department of State Health Services EMT certification or higher
- Ability to maintain all required certifications and licenses

Primary Responsibilities
Career personnel may be responsible for:
- Responding to fire, rescue, medical, and public service calls
- Operating fire apparatus and emergency equipment
- Performing fire suppression and rescue operations
- Providing emergency medical care
- Participating in training and continuing education
- Inspecting, maintaining, and cleaning apparatus and equipment
- Completing reports and incident documentation
- Supporting public education and community outreach activities
- Maintaining station readiness and operational preparedness
Training & Professional Development
Training is an important part of serving with Austin County ESD No. 2. Personnel are expected to maintain certifications and participate in ongoing department training to ensure operational readiness and safety.
Training opportunities may include:
- Fire suppression operations
- EMS continuing education
- Rescue operations
- Driver/operator training
- Incident command training
- Hazardous materials response
- Fire prevention and public education
Hiring Process
